Why?
I used to blog till a few months back, but the inanity of the whole thing got to me and so I stopped. However, now that I have a reasonably good excuse to blog I'll start again. Instead of blogging on general principles though, I plan to blog on something very specific. Cycles, cycling and cycling in Bangalore, to be precise.
Why?
I decided to start cycling in order to improve my general fitness level and being a child of the internet generation I tried to get some information about cycling in Bangalore. I managed to dig up a few websites which ranged from being useful to hilariously pointless.
Next: How does one actually go about buying cycling equipment in Bangalore? Where are the stores? How does one get there? Will Sourav Ganguly buy a cycle?
PS: For those of you who ( the very few ) who used to frequent this piece of internet real estate till I stopped blogging, a word of advice..... if you don't live in Bangalore and you aren't interested in cycling, this blog won't provide any entertainment.

- http://www.geocities.com/kummini/cycling/cycle.html - General information about cycling in Bangalore. Found it quite useful.
- http://www.bicyclesource.com - Information about cycling in general. Found it useful.
- Airzone - Nice flash presentation with no useful information whatsoever. Most of it is under construction.
- Yay! I want a cycle! Where do I buy one?
- Yay! I want a cycle! Where do I get a cycling helmet?
- Yay! I want a cycle! Where do I get elbow and knee guards?
- Yay! I want a cycle! Does it make sense to cycle on Bangalore's wonderful roads?
- Yay! I want a cycle! Should I settle for a goldfish instead? ( In a bowl. To stare at. Not to sit on and pedal )

# Yay! I want a cycle! Where do I buy one?
I used to buy cycles and cycle-accesories (last was when I was in 8th std., so info may be obsolete) from a couple of shops near (or at the end of) commercial street.
# Yay! I want a cycle! Does it make sense to cycle on Bangalore's wonderful roads?
No...you can get hit by other traffic, u can hit potholes, people, cows and get chased by confused dogs (this has happened to me!).

You could learn swimming and chase fishes in a pool or you could run on a treadmill and stare at the goldfish.

Hey,
I am looking forward to starting cycling. But preferrably to go on expedition trips outside Bangalore - which still to a large extent is serene. Any ideas?
Commercial Street has one of the better concentration of cycle shops in the city.

dude. I am a regular commuter to work on my cycle. I own two bikes - the hero hawk with starlit 5 speed gear and the new bsa foldman. I am a software engineer with Infineon.
I will strongly suggest buying cycle from a store that provides excellent service. Raja cycles near Townhall in Bangalore is one such place. Number is 080-22297180.

Hey,
I am impressed with the fact that you have considerd cycling to work being in Bangalore. My name is Audi and I am doing it too. I cycle alt days to my office at Residency Rd. from JP Nagar. Infact I am thinkin if there was a way to popularize this among the young IT people who stay in the city but drive to work! Looking for a cycling club or something which would spread awareness bout the same. Also, organize short weekend trips. Fun is important too.
Please let me know if you think the same.
Cheers,
Audi
Hello Sridhar / Suraj / Audi
I did not know that there are so many people interested in cycling in Bangalore. I thought people here are interested only in SUV's.
I cycle to work almost everyday from Bannerghatta road to South end cirle. i have a FIREFOX RELOADED, 21 gears with front and rear shocks. Its a mountain bike... you need one for Bangalore roads. it takes me 25mins to cycle 8.5 kms in this traffic...faster than my car...takes almost 40mins.
getting hit by other traffic... quite true like Suraj says... but cant hep it, can we?
Weekend trips for fun like Audi suggests.... fantastic idea. would love to be a part of it.
i want to pick up a pro bmx stunt bike where do i buy it in bangalore.....had one years back but it was stollen plz sugesst
